Turtle Credit is a free, plain-English guide to personal and business credit, founded by a former credit analyst who spent years on the lender’s side of the desk. Our goal is simple: show you how credit decisions really get made, so you can build credit with confidence, slow and steady.
Meet the founder: Michael Bradford

I’m Michael Bradford. For more than a decade, I’ve worked in banking, lending, and corporate finance, and for much of that time my job was deciding who got approved for credit.
Over my credit career, I reviewed and approved more than 10,000 consumer and business credit applications. I’ve seen what lenders look for, and why some applications get approved while others get declined. Turtle Credit is where I share that knowledge with you, for free.
Where my experience comes from
- Wells Fargo, personal banker: helped customers choose loans, make credit decisions, and consolidate debt.
- GM Financial, underwriter and senior credit analyst: reviewed credit histories and approved or declined auto financing applications.
- NEC Corporation of America, corporate credit analyst: analyzed businesses and set the credit lines they could use.
- Today: I work in corporate financial planning and analysis and hold the Leading with Finance certificate from Harvard Business School Online.
Why I started Turtle Credit
I started teaching financial literacy as a volunteer at JA Finance Park in Atlanta, a Junior Achievement program where students learn how to manage money. Helping those students make sense of money stuck with me. I found a real passion for paying it forward, and I want better for our future generations.
Most people never get a clear explanation of how credit works until it’s already cost them something. Turtle Credit is my way of changing that, one plain-English guide at a time.

How every article is made
Our articles are written under four pen names, each focused on one area: The Credit Coach, The Credit Hacker, The Debt Destroyer, and The Credit News Reporter. They’re editorial voices, not separate real people. Every article is drafted with the help of AI writing tools, fact-checked against published sources like the CFPB and the credit bureaus, and personally reviewed by me before it goes live. Our editorial policy explains the full process.
